If you are looking for a little bit more than the world-renowned Cornish cream-teas and pasties, you’ll be pleased to learn that Bude and the surrounding area has a pleasant surprise waiting for you – a vast array of excellent places to eat for almost every taste and budget, from the cosy country pub and award-winning tearoom, to rosette-awarded restaurants – many offering quality local and even organic produce.

Below you will find list of many of our local pubs, restaurants, cafés and take-aways. Many have been visited by our guests – receiving very positive comments – whilst others have been sampled (regularly) by us – and can thus be heartily recommended (or not?!). Kilkhampton

London Inn, 01288 321665. Good wholesome food and an excellent reputation for succulent local steaks, fresh fish dishes, delicious homemade desserts plus real ales and great chalkboard specials.    

New Inn, 01288 321488. Situated in the heart of the village of Kilkhampton the New Inn offers a wide range of home-made dishes including traditional Sunday roasts, also children's meals, crab and lobster when in season, fresh fish and char-grilled steaks.

Pizza Ape (Take Away), 01288 321465. Fabulous take-away pizzas at a decent price! Ring beforehand to order and pick up quarter of an hour later.

Wayside Chinese (Take Away), 01288 321929. A very good quality Chinese take away. Ring beforehand or just nip in and order!

Bude

Atlantic Diner, 5/7 Belle Vue. 01288 354167. The Atlantic Diner is open all day from breakfasts through to the evening with a varied menu for all the family.

Bencoolen Inn, Bencoolen Road. 01288 359686. Visit the "El Barco" restaurant featuring renowned intenational cuisine - extensive bar menu, children welcome, free house with real ale and free car parking.

Brendon Arms, Vicarage Road. 01288 354542. The Brendon Arms is one of Bude's favourite spots for lunches and dinners, anytime throughout the year. Honest, homely pub grub, with a good selection of daily specials. Two large bars with a large selection of well kept draught ales and choice wines. Excellent value for money!

Castle RestaurantThe Castle, The Wharf.   01288 350543.  With spectacular sea views, top quality food and a relaxed, informal atmosphere, the Castle Restaurant offers the best in modern dining. Overlooking Summerleaze beach and situated within historic Bude Castle.

Coasters, 2 Belle Vue Avenue. 01288 355332. Quietly located in one of the little lanes of Bude, you will find Coasters, a little gem for quality, home-made food in a relaxed, light and breezy atmosphere! Quality breakfasts, lunches and dinners are on the menu, but caters .

Crooklets Inn, Crooklets Beach. 01288 352335. Pub close to Crooklets beach, serving good value pub grub!

Hawkers @ The Camelot Hotel. Downs View/Summerleaze Avenue. 01288 352361. Fine dining restaurant in local hotel, open to non-residents.

Inn on the GreenCrooklets Beach. 01288 356013. At the Inn on the Green we have Legends Bar and Mulligan's Steak and Fish Restaurant, offering a wonderful choice of food, wines, beers and often live music. Good value bar meals as well as wonderful dining experience in our restaurant available! Famous for excellent Sunday carvery.

Life's A Beach, Summerleaze Beach. 01288 355222. Imagine sitting on the veranda of a restaurant which nestles among rugged cliffs, gazing at the golden sands and the sea, stained scarlet, as the sun sets. Is this the Italian Riviera? No, this is Life's a Beach, overlooking Bude's Summerleaze beach.

Mirchi Indian Cuisine, 7 Lansdown Road. 01288 350300/354448. Mirchi (mir-chi meaning hot peppers) is a casual contemporary Indian fusion restaurant in the centre of Bude. Featuring Asian Fusion and a delectable variety of Indian Cuisines, Mirchi offers an extensive choice of menu.

Olive Tree, Lower Wharf. Enjoy all of the above in our comfy leather sofas & tubs either in our lounge or cosy conservatory. If the sun is shining, how about sitting outside while you looking out over the canal with a glass of wine and a bowl of marinated olives.

Ripe CafeBude, 2 Lansdown Road. 01288 355325. Ripe Coffee Lounge & Restaurant. Five minutes from the beach and situated right in the middle of Bude, Ripe offers breakfast, lunch & dinner, using local, rare breed, free range & organic produce. Babies and children welcome, with baby change & disabled toilets.

Tiandi, Bude, 16 The Strand. 01288 359686. This is a fabulous restaurant for those who enjoy oriental delights in a contemporary setting. They offer a comprehensive range of dishes from many Asian and Pacific Rim countries such as China, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan and Singapore.   A great dining experience, with refreshingly good service!  

Stratton:

Tree Inn, Stratton, Fore Street. 01288 352038. Famous Inn, former manor house headquarters of Sir Bevill Grenville when he led Royalists to victory at Battle of Stamford Hill in 1643 & birthplace of Sir Anthony Payne, last Cornish Giant. Full of character, beautiful 13th C Galleon Restaurant. Wonderful, fresh, local, homemade pub food in a rich historical setting! Fabulous Sunday carvery.

Kings Arms, Bude, 16 The Strand. 01288 359686.  A beautiful old 18th century building set within stone built stables and courtyard and restaurant.

Uncle Willie's Chip ShopStratton, Fore Street. 01288 356001. Apparently one of the best fish & chip shops in the area. Fish is daily catch from either Padstow or Looe and real, honest chips!

Marhamchurch:

Buller's Arms, Marhamchurch. 01288 361277. Hunters Bar - our bar is warm and friendly and has everything one would expect from an old and very traditional English Inn, with lots of brass, old wood, an open fire in the winter and of course many fine drinks and a wholesome and varied menu. Delicious, wholesome food, from light bites to tempting meals, with a good choice of daily specials. Sunday carvery with a choice of 4 meats and 7 vegetables!

Widemouth Bay & Poundstock

Brocksmoor Restaurant, Widemouth Bay, Millook Road. 01288 361207. Our talented chefs use whenever possible the freshest local seasonal produce to create a menu focused on great flavours, add to this our extensive wine list and you have the perfect combination for a great meal.

Bay View Inn, Widemouth Bay. 01288 361273. Our superb restaurant only serves the freshest food and quite simply you will taste the difference. The imaginative use of local produce allows us to set ourselves apart by offering Cornish twists to favourite dishes.

Elements Bistro, Widemouth Bay. 01288 352386. Our beautiful bistro and terraces have unrivalled panoramic sea views and whether you prefer to dine "al fresco" or be seated in our boutique bistro, our laid back atmosphere should make for a wonderful evening.

Bangors Organic Restaurant, Poundstock, by the A39. 01288 361297. Unique, totally organic, licensed evening restaurant, serving fresh, seasonal, home grown produce. Real food, great flavours, simply and carefully prepared. Vegetarians welcome! Opening days vary, so please phone to reserve a table!

Morwenstow

Rectory Tea RoomsMorwenstow, Crosstown, 01288 331251.  This is a little hidden gem and well worth a detour. The food is all home-cooked, mostly using fresh local produce, as well as the farms own organic meats.   Coffee, lunches, afternoon and renowned cream teas! Enjoy a wonderful walk along spectacular coastal scenery afterwards.

Bush Inn, Morwenstow, Crosstown. 01288 331242. The Bush Inn at Morwenstow serves Cornish real ales, a good selection of wines and a menu prepared from the freshest local seasonal produce in an atmosphere full of old world charm. The new restaurant extension offers a more contemporary feel.

Holsworthy 

Rydon Inn & Restaurant, Holsworthy, Bude Road. 01409 259444 . Down-to-earth but 'different' - with attention to detail and attention to you, our customer. All at realistic and reasonable prices for a gastronomic experience for adults and children alike.

A little further afield:

Masons ArmsCamelford, 9-11 Market Place. 01840 213309. This is a little hidden gem and well worth a detour. Old Smithy Inn, Welcombe, Hartland, Devon. 01288 331305. . On the wild and woolly North Coast you will find a little gem of a village called Welcombe, just a stones throw from the Cornish Border. It has a beautiful beach, an ancient church and an exciting pub.

Cheristow Country Restaurant, Hartland, Devon. 01237 441043. Look forward to a warm welcome from Graham and Wendy when you visit their Farmhouse Restaurant on the beautiful Hartland Peninsula.
