If you are looking for a little bit more than the world-renowned Cornish cream-teas and pasties, you’ll be pleased to learn that Bude and the surrounding area has a pleasant surprise waiting for you – a vast array of excellent places to eat for almost every taste and budget, from the cosy country pub and award-winning tearoom, to rosette-awarded restaurants – many offering quality local and even organic produce.

Kilkhampton 

Gilletts Chippy, 01288 321674. An extensive menu with a variety of fish (battered or breaded) plus burgers, chicken, wraps and pies. Chips are prepared using local potatoes and all food is cooked fresh to order. Telephone orders are welcomed. Children's menu available.

London Inn, 01288 321665. Good wholesome food and an excellent reputation for succulent local steaks, fresh fish dishes, delicious homemade desserts plus real ales and great chalkboard specials.    

New Inn, 01288 321488. Situated in the heart of the village of Kilkhampton the New Inn offers a wide range of home-made dishes including traditional Sunday roasts, crab and lobster when in season, fresh fish and char-grilled steaks. Children's menu available.

Pizza Ape , 01288 321465. Fabulous pizzas at a decent price! Also on the menu are burgers, pasta dishes, salads and alot more besides. Eat in or take-away. Fully licensed.

Wayside Chinese (Take Away), 01288 321929. A very good quality Chinese take away. Ring beforehand or just nip in and order!

Bude

Atlantic Diner, 5/7 Belle Vue. 01288 354167. The Atlantic Diner is open all day from breakfasts through to the evening with a varied menu for all the family.

Bellini's Café, Queen Street, Bude. 01288 359550. Open from 9.30am Monday to Saturday, Bellini's serve a selection of pizza, pasta and paninis as well as hand-make cakes plus local and international drinks. Whilst local produce is used wherever possible the authentic Italian theme is maintained by using Italian wood fired pizza bases and meats, cheeses and olives imported directly from Italy. 

Bencoolen Inn, Bencoolen Road. 01288 359686. Visit the "El Barco" restaurant featuring renowned intenational cuisine - extensive bar menu, children welcome, free house with real ale and free car parking. Disabled access. 

Brendon Arms, Vicarage Road. 01288 354542. Enjoy fresh seafood, locally reared steaks and delicious home-made specials. Two large bars with a large selection of well kept draught ales and choice wines. Children's menu and baby change facilities. Dogs accepted. Disabled access.

Bude Tandoori, Burn Vue, Bude. 01288 359994. Serving authentic Bangladeshi and Indian cuisine, the extensive menu is sure to delight. Open 7 days a week.   Take away also available with 15% off menu prices. Baby changing facilities available. Disabled access. 

Castle Restaurant, The Castle, The Wharf.   01288 350543.  Enjoy spectacular sea views, top quality food (with an AA Rosette award) and a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Overlooking Summerleaze beach and situated within historic Bude Castle, the Castle Restaurant brings you superb modern European cuisine and an unforgettable dining experience. Disabled access.  

Coasters, 2 Belle Vue Avenue. 01288 355332. Open during the day for excellent Fairtrade coffee, light lunches and home-made cream teas. An evening menu is also offered on Friday and Saturday nights, which is carefully chosen to make the most of local flavours. Unlicensed, but you are welcome to bring your own wine (small corkage fee applies.) Disabled access. 

Crooklets Inn, Crooklets Beach. 01288 352335. A varied Italian menu using the finest local ingredients wherever possible. Dogs accepted.  

The Falcon Hotel, Bude. 01288 352005. Choose from two dining experiences at the Falcon Hotel, which specialises in using fresh, local produce with a daily fresh fish menu. The hotel offers fine cuisine in Tennyson's Restaurant, or an extensive bar menu in a more informal atmosphere in the Falcon Inn. Children's menu available. Disabled access. Dogs accepted. 

Hawkers @ The Camelot Hotel. Downs View/Summerleaze Avenue. 01288 352361. Top quality food imaginatively served and presented in a relaxing and elegant environment. Disabled access. Baby changing facilities available. 

Inn on the Green, Crooklets Beach. 01288 356013. Popular for steak and fish dishes, both the bar and restaurant offer a varied menu. Sunday carvery. Children's menu and baby changing facilities available. Dogs accepted.

Life's A Beach, Summerleaze Beach. 01288 355222. During the day, this is Mediterranean-style cafe. At evening time, the place transforms into a restaurant, offering a wide-ranging menu using local produce. Seafood is a speciality. Children's menu and baby changing facilities available. Mirchi Indian Cuisine, 7 Lansdown Road. 01288 350300/354448. Mirchi (mir-chi meaning hot peppers) is a casual contemporary Indian fusion restaurant in the centre of Bude. Food is freshly prepared and cooked to order.

Olive Tree, Lower Wharf. Coffee house and bistro provides refreshing meals and light snacks throughout the day. Children's menu and baby changing facilities available. Disabled access.

Tiandi, Bude, 16 The Strand. 01288 359686. This is a fabulous restaurant for those who enjoy oriental delights in a contemporary setting. They offer a comprehensive range of dishes from across the Asia Pacific, complemented by an extensive drinks list.

The Old Wainhouse Inn, Wainhouse Corner, St Gennys, Bude. 01840 230711. A varied gastro-pub menu including 21-day matured, succulent steaks and olde Cornish sausages, which is served all day, every day. Sunday carvery. Children's menu is available. Disabled access. 

Stratton:

Tree Inn, Stratton, Fore Street. 01288 352038. Famous Inn, former manor house headquarters of Sir Bevill Grenville when he led Royalists to victory at Battle of Stamford Hill in 1643 & birthplace of Sir Anthony Payne, last Cornish Giant. Full of character, beautiful 13th C Galleon Restaurant. Wonderful, fresh, local, homemade pub food in a rich historical setting! Fabulous Sunday carvery. Children's menu available. Disabled access. Kings Arms, Bude, 16 The Strand. 01288 359686.  A beautiful, traditional 17th century inn serving quality, home-cooked bar meals. Selection of daily specials and local ales. Children's menu is available. Disabled access. Dogs accepted. 

Marhamchurch:

Buller's Arms, Marhamchurch. 01288 361277. An old and very traditional English country inn, serving a varied menu from light snacks to sophisticated delights. Meals are freshly prepared using local ingredients. A carvery is available each Sunday, with a selection of 4 meats and no less than 7 vegetables. Widemouth Bay & Poundstock

Widemouth Manor Hotel, Widemouth Bay, Millook Road. 01288 361207. The main restaurant offers a fine dining experience, whilst delicious lunches and snacks are available in the bars.  Local, seasonal produce is used wherever possible. Elements, Widemouth Bay. 01288 352386. Recently refurbished, Elements is now an Italian restaurant serving pizza, pasta and salads. Children's menu and baby changing facilities are available. Disabled access.  

Morwenstow and Hartland 

Rectory Tea Rooms, Morwenstow, Crosstown, 01288 331251. Famous and award winning cream teas - this is a traditional tea room in everyway. Open daily from Easter to October, 11.00am - 5.00pm. Children's menu available.

Docton Mill Tea Rooms, Hartland, Devon. 01237 441369. Award winning tea rooms serving locally sourced seafood, salads and home-made chutneys and of course cream teas amongst other things! 

Bush Inn, Morwenstow, Crosstown. 01288 331242. The Bush Inn at Morwenstow serves Cornish real ales, a good selection of wines and a menu prepared from the freshest local seasonal produce in an atmosphere full of old world charm. Children's menu and baby changing facilities are available. Bradworthy and Holsworthy

Bradworthy Inn, Bradworthy. 01409 241222. A family run 16 th century coaching inn offering a fine selection of real ales, beers, wines and spirits. Varied lunch and evening menus are created using fresh local produce wherever possible. Specials board is regularly changed. Sunday carvery. Children's menu available. Dogs accepted.

Cousins Corner Café, Stanhope Square, Holsworthy. 01409 253619. Delicious, freshly cooked, piping hot fish and chips – served on real plates with cups of tea and bread and butter.   Also available to take away. 

Rydon Inn & Restaurant, Holsworthy, Bude Road. 01409 259444. Offers customers a more contemporary and satisfying dining experience than conventional 'pub grub.' Children's menu and baby changing facilities are available. Disabled access. 

A little further afield:

Masons Arms, Camelford, 9-11 Market Place. 01840 213309. Centrally located, this eighteenth century inn offers an extensive menu using fresh local produce, including a fresh fish menu and lots of homemade specials. Food is served lunchtime and evening, seven days a week. Children welcome.

Old Smithy Inn, Welcombe, Hartland, Devon. 01288 331305. The inn aims to serve fresh local produce, from a small but varied menu, which is changed regularly. Always on offer are fish dishes, vegetarian and a choice of meats, including game in season.
